Cleveland, OH: The Cleveland Rovers Rugby Football Club announced the start of a capital development fund aimed at acquiring and building a permanent athletic facility, with the long-term intention of partnering with The Cleveland Foundation. As a federal 501(c)(3) charity, the mission of Cleveland Rovers R.F.C. Inc. is to foster national and international amateur sports competition, and to support and develop amateur athletes for that competition.

“The Rovers are excited to kick off this campaign by investing $20,000 from the team operating fund as seed money for a bright future.  All donations and grants will be used for the acquisition, construction, and operation of a permanent home for the Rovers and the entire Cleveland rugby community,” said Dan Rabkewych, President, Cleveland Rovers. “We hope to gain support from the entire Cleveland sports and business communities for this project. The facility will be used by future generations, for all sports, for many years to come.”

Specifically, the Cleveland Rovers Capital Development Fund will be focused on providing for:

·       Assessment and Acquisition of Land

·       Construction of Athletic Fields and Structures

·       Maintenance and Operation of the Facility

·       Future Growth

The Rovers are currently reviewing several potential sites in and around the city, and have partnered with architectural consultant Kenny Levick of Blue Shift Industries on initial concept renderings of the future facility and grounds. All inquiries regarding the Capital Development Fund, including how to donate, can be sent to ClevelandRovers@gmail.com or submitted online at www.clevelandrovers.com.

About the Cleveland Rovers RFC:

The Cleveland Rovers are a USA Rugby affiliated club hailing from across Northern Ohio and made up of players from all walks of life brought together in the traditions of team, community, and camaraderie. Deeply entrenched in the history of the city for over 43 years, the Cleveland Rovers are committed to upholding the traditions of the past, serving the community, and growing the game of rugby.

For over 20 years, Rovers alumni have founded and coached a vast majority of the tremendously successful grade school and high school teams in the Cleveland area, from Lake County to Lorain County, and beyond.  The club currently operates mens 15-a-side, mens 7-a-side, Ohio Celtic Elite high school boys and girls select touring 15-a-side, and the Cleveland Fire 7-a-side teams.  Our teams compete year round both nationally and internationally; having toured Canada, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland in recent years. The club plans to return to Europe to compete in 15-a-side matches in Scotland, and the World Police and Fire Games 7-a-side tournament in The Netherlands, in the coming years.
